The village of Kur, currently inhabited by about 300 people, all belonging to the al-Jayyusi family, traces its lineage back to their grandfather, Harb, who was in the Mamluk army that came to Palestine. Sheikh Harb decided to live in the village. Popular lore says that when Sheikh Harb arrived in Palestine, he placed a piece of meat on top of every mountain. He decided to settle on the spot where the hyenas couldn't reach. He had 11 sons and decided to build houses for them to live in.

The palaces in the village of Kor derive their importance today from their grandeur and the architectural art on their walls, which contain engraved stone decorations and pottery pieces mixed with the stones of their structure. The palaces also have distinctive narrow windows, but despite this beauty, some of their facades are collapsing, while others are on the verge of collapse. Here, the villagers look forward to extending a helping hand to their village's history by preserving, protecting, and restoring it so that the stones that speak of history and bear witness to the eras that passed through Palestine remain, and so that they can be a tourist attraction overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

Youssef Al-Jiyusi is the one who built it six hundred years ago to be the seat of government and a place for his family to live and to fortify it against enemy attacks. The palaces contain a fortified living system, and the one who wanders inside the castle realizes this. The lower floor of it includes a prison, rooms for guards, and stables for horses. It also contains a system for storing water in its walls, while the second floor contains the rooms in which the castle’s residents reside. It has long, narrow, winding stairs that connect the castle’s sections.

The village's historic buildings date back to the Mamluk and Ottoman eras. The historic buildings in Kor are divided into Ottoman buildings in the northern part of the village and Mamluk buildings in the southern part. Kor is the only Palestinian village that consists of a group of palaces decorated with ornate domes. Its castle, "Al-Jayasa," also known as Kor Castle, is distinguished by its military design.

The Palestinian Dove of the Desert, or so it was known to sailors, is the historic palaces of Kor, a testament to a long history. At an altitude of more than 400 meters above sea level, the village of Kor, in the northern West Bank, is home to eleven historic palaces dating back more than six hundred years.
